Genlisea africana is a slender erect herb of wet grassland, recorded from Mali, Portuguese Guinea (Guinea Bissau), Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Ivory Coast; U. reflexa is an aquatic species recoded from Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Dahomey (Benin), Niger, Nigeria (Southern and Northern) and the British Cameroons (Cameroon); U. gibba, a creeping species occurring on wet mud, has been recorded from Nigeria (Southern and Northern), Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Portuguese Guinea (Guinea Bissau), Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana and the British Cameroons (Cameroon) (Hutchinson & Dalziel, 1954).
