The National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) is a not-for-profit research, conservation, and education organization headquartered on the island of Kauai, Hawaii, with branch gardens on Kauai, Maui, and Florida. Under its Congressional charter NTBG fosters and encourages research in tropical botany through its living collections, programs, and facilities, which include a library and herbarium. Established in 1971, Herbarium PTBG houses over 65,000 accessioned voucher specimens, primarily of flowering plants and ferns, but also fungi and bryophytes. The collection focuses on plants of the Hawaiian Islands and other Pacific islands and archipelagos, including Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia. It comprises one of the most comprehensive modern collections of Hawaiian plant specimens anywhere and includes about 240 type specimens.
