The Arizona State University Vascular Plant Herbarium is the second largest in the Arid Southwest with ca. 280,000 specimens. Our collection of Cactaceae is one of the best in the world, being particularly rich in cytological vouchers. Collections resulting from various floristic treatments in Arizona and Mexico make the ASU Vascular Plant Herbarium a unique and valuable resource. Our primary mission is to facilitate research, teaching, and public outreach. We are also concerned with documenting the ecological and geographical distribution of the Arizona flora. Associated with the Vascular Plant Herbarium is the Arizona State University Lichen Herbarium, which currently houses over 109,000 fully accessioned and databased lichen specimens from all over the world.
Materials of Special Interest:
The Arizona State University Vascular Plant Herbarium is especially rich in specimens from the Southwest and has significant collections form northern Mexico and temperate South America. It houses over 800 type specimens. Collections of the Cactaceae, Myrtaceae, and Agavaceae are especially important.
