Plants 1-1.5 m. high. Corm depressed-globose, 5-7 mm. in diameter, the tunics reddish and irregularly broken. Foliage leaves several, mostly basal or inserted in the lower part of the stem, reaching to ± the base of the spike, lanceolate, sometimes narrowly so, (1.3-)2-3.5 cm. wide, the margins, midrib and usually at least one other pair of veins thickened and hyaline, the surface densely and minutely papillose to shortly pubescent. Stem unbranched. spike erect, 6-10-flowered, the nodes 3-7 cm. apart; bracts 4-6(-7) cm. long, green, the inner 1-2 cm. shorter than the outer. Flowers pale yellow with greenish highlights; perianth-tube 3-4 cm. long, curving outward above, gradually expanding toward the apex; tepals unequal, the upper 3 ± 4 cm. long, the dorsal hooded over the stamens, ± 2 cm. wide, the upper laterals directed forward and curving outward only apically, the lower 3 tepals 1/2-1/3 as long as the upper, curving downward from the base. Filaments 2.5-3 cm. long, exserted at least 1.5 cm.; anthers 1.4-1.7 cm. long. Style arching over the stamens, dividing near the anther-apices, the branches ± 5 mm. long. Capsules unknown.

Closely allied to G. dalenii but with a larger flower, a pale lemon yellow and greenish perianth, and distinctive leaves the entire surface covered with a dense, minute papillose indumentum, and often the secondary veins thickened and hyaline.
