A much-branched annual, 2–3 ft. high with terete nearly glabrous stems Leaves opposite, distinctly petioled, oblong, obtuse, deeply crenate, cuneate at the base, 2–3 in. long. Spikes 1/2–1 ft. long; rhachis 1/6 in. diam., conspicuously hollowed out opposite the flowers; bracts lanceolate, acuminate, 1/4 in. long. Calyx rather shorter than the bract; teeth minute. Corolla-tube slightly longer than the calyx; limb 1/4 in. diam., blue, with a white eye. Capsule rather shorter than the calyx.
