Shrub 2–3 m. tall or climber to 1.5 m.; stems densely shortly brownish pubescent; leaves ovate to lanceolate, 10–23 cm. long, 3–10 cm. wide, gradually narrowly acuminate at the apex, asymmetrically subcordate at the base, scabrid and finely bullate above, with minute raised reticulation beneath, the walls shortly spreading pubescent and areole surface clearly visible but slightly pubescent; petiole 0.5–1.5(–2.8) cm. long; spikes white, 5.5–10.5 cm. long when developed; floral bracts long-ciliate at margins; stamens 3.
Notes
A native of Columbia and Venezuela has been grown in Tanzania as an ornamental, Dar es Salaam University, plant nursery, 11 Apr. 1976, Wingfield 3368.
