Rhizomatous perennial; culms 20–40 cm. long, loosely tufted, decumbent or ascending, branching. Leaf laminae 2.5–7 cm. long and 4–10 mm. wide, lanceolate, flat, acute or finely pointed. Panicles 5–7.5 cm. long ovate-oblong, moderately to sparsely branched, pilose, with or without clavellate hairs. Spikelets 2.5–3 mm. long, oblong, obtuse; inferior glume 1/2 the length of the spikelet, ovate, 5–7-nerved; superior glume 9-nerved; inferior lemma 9-nerved, its palea moderately developed, sterile; superior lemma and palea glossy, pallid.
