E. uniflora L. the Surinam or pitanga cherry (but also has many other names), a native of Surinam, Guyana, French Guiana and S to Brazil and Uruguay has been cultivated at Entebbe Botanic Gardens (Uganda, Mengo District: Snowden 1829), Nairobi (Kenya, Nairobi District: Mathenge 463, Williams Sangai 548, Mwangangi 2027), Amani and Dar es Salaam (Tanzania, Lushoto District: Greenway 934, 2922, Ruffo 626 & Uzaramo District: Ruffo 595), often as a hedge plant (T.T.C.L.: 377 (1949)).
