Information
Erect herb 30–80(130) cm tall, arising from a perennial woody rootstock to 9 × 2 cm. Stems annual, branched or not, pubescent. Leaves pinnately 3-foliolate; leaflets 3.8–13.2 × 0.2–1.6 cm, narrowly oblong-elliptic to linear, paler on the lower surface, acute to almost rounded at the apex, cuneate at the base, glabrescent to silvery-pubescent on both surfaces, if glabrescent then often with scattered hairs on the veins, 3-veined from the base almost to the apex; petiole (1)2–7 mm long, channelled; rhachis 2–5 mm long; petiolules 1–1.5 mm long; stipules 2–5 × 1–2 mm, narrowly ovate to lanceolate, striate, usually caducous. Flowers axillary, in pairs or in 3–6(9)-flowered fascicles; pedicels 2–12 mm long, pubescent; bracts absent; bracteoles minute, linear. Calyx pubescent; tube 4–5 mm long; lobes 3–8 mm long, linear-triangular, the upper pair fused for most of their length. Standard white or pale green tinged purple outside, purple inside, sometimes with a deep purple blotch in the throat, 8–17 × 9–13 mm, round or almost so; wings pale mauve; keel pale green at base becoming purple at the tip. Ovary 6–9 mm long, linear-oblong, compressed, densely pubescent; style 3–5 mm long; stigma minute, terminal, capitate, penicillate. Pods 2.2–3.5 cm × 6–7 mm, linear-oblong, pubescent on surfaces and along the margins, 4–8-seeded. Seeds pinkish-grey to mid-brown, densely mottled black, 3–5 × 2–5 × 1–2 mm; subglobose, ovoid or quadrate, somewhat irregularly shaped, sometimes compressed; hilum minute.
