Monoecious much-branched tree 6–10 m tall; branches greyish brown, with numerous shallow furrows, lenticels inconspicuous; leafy stems 2–3 mm diameter, internodes 1–20 mm long, the distal ± 10 cm of actively growing stems brown-scurfy with dense stellate hairs. Leaf-blade simple, elliptic, 11–32≈4.5–10(–13.5) cm, entire, acumen short and wide, 0.2–1.3 cm long, margin barely revolute, base acute, with 6–7 pairs of dull yellow secondary nerves; petiole terete, 0.5–12.5 cm long, both short and long petiole on the same stem, pulvinate at base and apex, the pulvini (2–)6–9(–12) mm long, ± 0.2 cm diameter, brownish green below, brown-scurfy as the distal part of the stems; stipules caducous, not persisting below the apical bud, triangular-acuminate, 4–5≈1.5–2 mm, glabrescent. Inflorescences cauliflorous, loosely fasciculate, with several flowers opening at one time from a mass of 20–30 buds on one of several woody burrs (brachyblasts) scattered on the trunk; pedicel 3.7–9.5 mm long, articulated 3–4(–6) mm from the base, bearing 1–3 scattered caducous bracts below the point of articulation, indumentum minutely puberulous, of patent simple hairs with scattered 5–10-armed stellate hairs; bracts suborbicular, ± 1.7≈1.5 mm, apex bifid. Female flowers 20–30 mm diameter, pale yellow; perianth divided into 4–5 patent or reflexed lobes, subtriangular to narrowly ovate, 9–12≈7–8 mm, apex acute to obtuse, base ± 5–8 mm wide, margin involute, membranous, inconspicuous; basal part of perianth campanulate, ± 5≈5 mm, outer perianth puberulous, as the pedicel, inner surface glabrous, basal half of lobes minutely papillate; anthers 8–9, uniseriate, indehiscent, at the base of the ovary; carpels 3–4, adnate, ovoid, 5≈4 mm, puberulous; stigmas white, elliptic, 3.5–4.5≈2–2.5 mm, reflexed, apex rounded, upper surface papillate. Male flowers as the female, but 14–17(–22) mm diameter, perianth lobes 5–6, 5.5–7≈3.2–4.5 mm, basal part of perianth slightly convex, ± 6 mm wide; androphore cylindrical, 1.5–3≈0.5–0.7 mm, apex slightly constricted, glabrous; anther-head (2.5–)3 mm wide, anthers uniseriate, 8–9; carpels inconspicuous. Fruit one or more per stem; pedicel accrescent, stout, 5 mm long; fruitlets 3, red, patent, widely ellipsoid, ± 4.5≈3.2 cm, ± 2 cm deep, apex rostrate, 6–10≈2–4 mm, base sessile, ventral suture ridge conspicuous, pericarp leathery, ± 2 mm thick when dried, smooth, densely shortly dark brown puberulous with stellate and simple hairs; seeds ± 7 per fruit, hemispherical, ± 15≈15 mm, invested in a thick glossy seed-coat.
