Small tree, height up to 7 m., with greyish or brown reticulated bark. Young branches, buds and petioles with ± dense ferrugineous indumentum of spreading and intertwined hairs; older branches practically glabrous. Petioles short, 1.5–3.5 mm. long. Leaf-lamina elliptic, broadly elliptic to obovate-elliptic, 3.5–9(-ll.2) cm. long, l.5–4.5(–6) cm. wide, coriaceous, shortly and bluntly acuminate to rounded and emarginate at apex, cuneate; lower surface with rusty-brown pubescence; nerves raised and prominent on upper surface, less so beneath, primary lateral nerves 7–12 on each side, arcuate, ascending and looped near margin, secondary lateral nerves present and well-developed. Flowers clustered mainly in current leaf axils; pedicels 2–3 mm. long, pubescent. Calyx with sparse to medium pubescence; sepals ± free to base, broadly ovate to suborbicular, up to 3 mm. long, ciliate. Corolla-tube ±1.5 mm. long; lobes up to 2 mm. long, ciliate. Filaments ± 1.5 mm. long, flattened. Ovary subconical, densely pilose, tapering into 1–2 mm. long style. Fruit shortly stalked, pale yellowish-green, depressed subglobose, up to 4.5 cm. in diameter, with thin smooth skin and firm flesh. Seeds shiny brown, ± ellipsoid and laterally compressed, up to 2.1 cm. long, 1.6 cm. wide; scar lateral and extending to base.
