Shrub or woody herb 0.4–1.5 m; stems branched, cylindrical, striate, densely leafy distally, sparsely pubescent to minutely scabridulous on the younger parts. Leaves slightly shiny, sessile, lanceolate, 3–14 cm long, 1–6 cm wide, base more or less half-amplexicaul, margins serrulate with callose mucros to dentate, apex acute, almost glabrous but for some hairs on the margins. Capitula 5–8 mm long, several united in hemispherical heads, these in turn united in terminal dense leafy corymbs; stalks of individual capitula 2–12 mm long, densely glandular-pubescent to almost glabrous; phyllaries in several series, subequal, green, narrowly lanceolate, 3–7 mm long, 0.4–1.3 mm wide, margins scarious, acute to attenuate, the outermost pubescent to glabrous; receptacle convex, slightly toothed. Florets pale yellow, marginal florets many (> 100), tube 1–2.2 mm long, ray erect, filiform, 0.2–0.6 mm, style 2.6–4.2 mm long; central florets 5–15, tube 2.8–3.4 mm long, lobes 0.6–1.3 mm long; anthers 1–1.4 mm with ovate appendage; style 3.2–4.9 mm long, with flattened obtuse papillose branches. Achenes flattened, oblong, 0.9–1.3 mm long, sparsely pilose; pappus of barbellate pale yellow setae 3–5 mm long.
