Information
Annual up to 40 cm high, but usually much less. Panicle loose and open, sometimes contracted but not spike-like. Glumes subequal (the upper fractionally the longer), narrowly lanceolate, 5–7.5 mm long, scaberulous, the lower usually deciduous before the floret is mature; lemma, including the callus and the 4–10 mm long column, 12–22 mm long, scabrid, with a semicircular bend below the column; column without an articulation; central awn 0.7–2.3 cm long; lateral awns up to 1.3 cm long, usually much shorter and sometimes absent altogether.
