Information Evergreen shrub up to 3 m. tall; glabrous in all parts. Leaves petiolate, 3-foliolate; petiole 0·7–3 cm. long, broadly grooved; leaflets sessile; lamina 2–8·5 (12) × 1–2·6 (4) cm., coriaceous, elliptic, apex obtuse or rounded or sometimes shortly and broadly acuminate or sometimes emarginate, cuneate at the base; nerves and veins numerous, quite conspicuous on the upper surface, flat beneath. Inflorescence of axillary sessile glomerules, sometimes also on older leafless stems. Flowers 4-merous; buds 4·5 mm. long, narrow. Sepals 4, united into a cupuliform calyx 1 mm. long with short truncate lobes. Male flowers: petals 4, 4·5 × 0·8 mm., very narrow, slightly imbricate; stamens 4, opposite the sepals; filaments filiform, as long as the petals; anthers basifixed, 2-lobed at the base; disk obsolete, ovary vestigial, conical, glabrous; style slender. Female flowers: not seen. Fruit 11 × 7 mm., scarlet (fide Miller), black when dry, smooth; endocarp rather thin. Seed ellipsoid; testa membranous; cotyledons thick; embryo very small.
