Plant 6–15 in. high. Leaves 7–12, radical, tufted, lanceolate, acute, narrowed and almost petiolate above the sheathing base, 2 1/2–5 1/2 in. long. Scapes 6–15 in. long; racemes elongate, laxly many-flowered, subsecund, 2 1/2–6 in. long. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, 1 1/2–5 lin. long. Pedicels 3–4 lin. long. Sepals ovate-oblong, obtuse, 1 1/2 lin. long. Petals suborbicular-oblong, as long as but rather broader than the sepals. Lip 3 1/2 lin. long, cuneate-linear, apical third trilobed; side lobes oblong, obtuse; front lobe linear, obtuse, 1 lin. long, much narrower and slightly shorter than the side lobes. Column stout, 1/2 lin long.

An erect epiphytic or lithophytic herb 10–35 cm tall; tubers to 4 × 1 cm, ellipsoid, woolly.Leaves 6–12 in a basal rosette, spreading or arched, up to 12 × 2 cm, lanceolate or oblanceolate, acute, often spotted with dark brown, the margins undulate.Scape with several lightly spotted sheaths, lanceolate, acuminate, decreasing in size up the scape.Inflorescence erect, rather laxly 5–many-flowered, flowers subsecund; pedicel and ovary 9–10 mm long, the bracts shorter.Flowers pink or lilac, the lip with darker spots.Dorsal sepal 3–5.5 × c. 2 mm, elliptic; lateral sepals slightly longer, obliquely ovate.Petals 5–6 × 3 mm, enfolding the column; sepals and petals with papillose margins.Lip 5–12 × 3–6 mm, narrowly wedge-shaped in outline, 3-lobed in apical third; mid-lobe acute, narrower and usually longer than the truncate side lobes.Column 1–2 mm tall; staminodes fist-shaped, the apex ± tuberculate; stigmatic arms slender, erect or slightly curved.Capsule ribbed, 12–18 mm long.
