Extends from Tanzania to Zambia and the extreme north of S.W.A./Namibia; on sandy soil in thickets, grassy depressions and disturbed areas. Map 74.
Erect perennial branched herb or suffrutex up to 1 m tall; branches ascending, sparingly pubescent with longish multicelluÂlar hairs. Leaves petiolate; blade thin-textured, ovate, 60-150 x 35-80 (-110) mm, sparingly pubescent, under-surface with orange gland-dots, apex acute, base rounded to subcordate, margin regularly crenate-dentate; petiole 20—60 mm long. Inflorescence a diffusely branched terminal panicle with 1 or 2 main branches near the base; flowers in 3-flowered pedunculate cymes in the axils of persistent bracts; peduncles c. 20 mm long, pedicels 5 — 10 mm long. Calyx up to 9 mm long in fruit, subequally 5-toothed, ventricose, freely orange gland-dotted. Corolla violet, 6,5—7,5 mm long; tube geniculate near the base and expanding slightly towards the throat; upper lip 4 mm long, lower lip boat-shaped, 3,5 mm long. Stamens free to the base, 3 mm long.
