Herbs, slightly woody towards base, 10–40 cm. tall, branching, stems glabrous or pubescent towards base. Leaves sessile, single or more usually in fascicles, 8–40 × 0.5×0.7 mm., subsucculent filiform, glabrous (rarely papillate). Inflorescence usually terminal, up to c. 20 cm. long; rhachis glabrous. Flowers yellowish-green to white, clustered in threes, glabrous, central flower subtended by a glabrous, ovate to cuspidate bract c. 0.8–1 × 0.5–0.6 mm., sometimes 3-lobed with larger triangular central lobe; lateral flowers each subtended by a glabrous, ovate, faintly lobed bract 0.7–0.8 × 0.3–0.4 mm. and usually 2 glabrous, ovate bracteoles 0.5–0.6 × 0.25–0.3 mm. Sepals 1–1.2 × 0.3–0.7 mm., lanceolate to ovate, rounded or acute at apex, one sepal sometimes larger than others. Stamens: filaments c. 0.7–1.5 mm. long; anthers 0.3–0.4 mm. long, elliptic. Ovary 0.4–0.6 × 0.2–0.5 mm., glabrous; stigmas 0.15–0.5 mm. long. Fruit 1–1.2 mm. in diam., muricate or warty.
