Plants 12–25 cm high. Corms conical-campanulate, 9 mm in diameter at the widest; tunics light-brown, brittle-papery, irregularly lobed along the lower margin. Foliage leaves 4, the lower 2 basal and laminate, linear, reaching to about the base of the spike, the upper 2 leaves cauline and sheathing. Stem erect, unbranched. Spike 1–2-flowered; floral bracts green, usually flushed with red, 11–14 mm long, subequal or the inner shorter, the margins of the outer bract united around the stem for c. 3 mm. Flowers white, the outer tepals dark-red on the reverse, opening at sunset and then fragrant, down-curved, facing the ground; perianth tube 11–15 mm long, curving near the apex, usually slightly exceeding the bracts; tepals 15–19 × 5–6 mm. Anthers c. 7 mm long, yellow, pendent. Style branches c. 12 mm long. Capsules unknown.
