Tree up to 10 m. tall, or a shrub. Leafy twigs dark-brown to blackish when dry. Leaf lamina 7.5–15 x 3–7 cm., subcoriaceous; apex shortly acuminate; base cuneate to rounded or subcordate; lateral veins 8–12(14) pairs; petiole 1.5–4 (5.5) cm. long, 1–1.5 mm. thick when dry. Peduncle basal bracts subpersistent. Receptacle ellipsoid to subglobose, 2–2.5 cm. in diam. when fresh, (1)1.2–1.8 cm. in diam. when dry, yellow with paler spots at maturity.
