DISTR. K 4; T 1–3, 5 not known elsewhere
Much branched perennial or shrubby herb to 75 cm tall with erect to procumbent stems, sometimes rooting at lower nodes, forming dense clumps; young stems quadrangular, subglabrous to puberulous or sericeous-puberulous and with slightly longer hairs on edges, no capitate glands, eventually with exfoliating bark. Leaves broadly elliptic-obovate to orbicular, largest 2–5≈1.3–4.5 cm (less than twice as long as wide), apex subacute to emarginate, base attenuate, decurrent to stem or with an ill-defined petiole up to 1.5 cm long, margin subentire to dentate, subglabrous to sparsely and uniformly sericeous-puberulous; stipule-sheath 0.5–1 mm long. Flowers solitary or in 3-flowered cymules (peduncles up to 5 mm long) which are arranged in narrow racemiform axillary sericeous-puberulous panicles; bracts foliaceous, gradually smaller upwards; pedicels 0.5–2 mm long, puberulous and with subsessile glands; bracteoles linear-lanceolate to obovate, up to 7 mm long, puberulous and with slightly longer ciliae, with or without subsessile (shorter than hairs) capitate glands. Calyx 5–8(–9 in fruit) mm long, puberulous and with scattered to dense subsessile (shorter than or same length as hairs) capitate glands, tube 4–5 mm long; teeth triangular, acute or subacute, dorsal 2.5–4 mm long, ventral 2–3 mm long with the free part 1–2 mm long. Corolla white to pale pink or mauve with orange patches on lower lip, 13–17 mm long, sericeous-puberulent on the outside; tube 8–10 mm long of which the throat 2–4 mm; lips 4–8 mm long; lobes oblong-obovate, 2–3.5 (upper lip) to 5 (lower lip) mm wide, retuse to truncate; palate with numerous long stiff straight hairs. Filaments 2–6 mm long, with scattered hairs and glands throughout; anthers 1.5–2 mm long, rounded, connective with sparse capitate glands. Dorsal stigma lobe about half the length of ventral. Capsule and seed not seen.

DISTR. T 5, 7 not known elsewhere
Erect shrubby herb to 1.3 m tall; young branches curly-puberulous or sparsely so, eventually pale yellow and with exfoliating bark. Leaves ovate to elliptic, largest 3–8≈1.4–3 cm, more than twice as long as wide or about the same, apex acute, base cuneate, decurrent into a distinct petiole to 8 mm long with long broad glossy hairs on edges, uniformly curly puberulous or sparsely so on both sides, margin dentate, venation beneath distinctly raised, reticulate; stipule sheath 1.5–3 mm long. Flowers in few- to many-flowered condensed widely separated axillary cymes; outer bracts foliaceous, to 2 cm long; inner bracts oblong, to 1 cm long, uniformly puberulous or sparsely so and with long broad glossy hairs along midrib and on margins; bracteoles similar, to 8 mm long, with scattered subsessile capitate glands. Calyx 6–8(–10 in fruit) mm long, uniformly finely puberulous and with scattered to dense long broad glossy hairs along midrib and on lobes, with scattered short-stalked capitate glands, tube 4–6 mm long; teeth triangular, acute, dorsal 2–3 mm long, ventral 2–3 mm long of which the free part 1–2 mm. Corolla white, 12–14 mm long, finely sericeous-puberulous; tube 7–8 mm long of which the throat ± 2 mm; lips 4–5 mm long; lobes oblong, ± 2 mm wide, emarginate; palate without long hairs. Filaments 2–4 mm long, with a few hairs near base; anthers ± 1.5 mm long, rounded at both ends, connective with subsessile glands. Dorsal stigma lobe about half the length of ventral. Capsule and seed not seen.

DISTR. T 5–8
Erect (rarely decumbent) viscid glandular aromatic (when crushed) perennial or shrubby herb (often pyrophytic) from creeping rootstock and tuberous roots, or shrub; stems to 1(–1.5) m tall, usually much branched, quadrangular, when young sparsely to densely glandular-puberulous and with scattered longer glands (to 1 mm) intermixed, often also with long pilose non-glandular hairs up to 3 mm and with puberulous non-glandular hairs. Leaves often immature at time of flowering, elliptic to slightly obovate, largest (mature) 3–15≈1.3–5.5(–6.5) cm, apex subacute to rounded, base long-decurrent, without distinct petiole, margin subentire to dentate, glabrous or with scattered broad long glossy hairs on veins, more rarely uniformly puberulous. Flowers solitary or in 3-flowered cymules, aggregated into racemiform cymes which are again aggregated into branched panicles, indumentum as young stems but with denser glands; bracts foliacaeous towards base, gradually smaller upwards; peduncles of cymules to 10(–30) mm long; pedicels 0–2 mm long; bracteoles elliptic to orbicular or obovate, 3–11 mm long, with recurved tip. Calyx 6–11(–14 in fruit) mm long, glandular-puberulous or densely so, usually also with long pilose hairs; tube 5–6.5 mm long; teeth narrowly triangular to lanceolate, acute, dorsal 1–4.5 mm long, ventral 1.5–4 mm long with the free part 1–3 mm. Corolla white to mauve or purple, with darker patches on lower lip and with orange-brown palate, 14–23 mm long, finely sericeous or sparsely so and with scattered capitate glands outside; tube 8–13 mm long of which the throat 2–4 mm; lips 5–10 mm long; lobes oblong-obovate, 1.5–3.5 mm wide, retuse to truncate; palate on lower lip with numerous long stiff hairs directed down into throat. Filaments 2–5 mm long, sparsely puberulous at base and with scattered capitate glands towards apex; anthers 1.5–2 mm long, connective with usually dense captate glands. Stigma lobes subequal. Capsule 7–10 mm long, obovoid, glabrous or with scattered glands near apex. Seed 3–4 mm long. Fig. 37, p. 243.
