Climbing herb with a napiform root; stems glabrous except for subsessile capitate glands near the nodes; tendrils present. Leaves digitately 3–5-foliolate; petiole up to 4 cm. long, sparsely pilose and usually with a few glandular hairs; leaflets up to 5 × 2·5 cm., narrowly elliptic to broadly elliptic, apex acute, margin serrate-crenate with gland-tipped teeth, base ± cuneate, sparsely puberulous on both sides, petiolule 0–1 cm. long; stipules up to 1 cm. long, ovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, acuminate, margin sometimes glandular. Cymes on short side-branches, lax, trichotomous; peduncle up to 4 cm. long, glabrous; pedicels up to 5 mm. long, glabrous except for stipitate glands near the middle; bracts and bracteoles up to 2 mm. long, lanceolate, glabrous. Flower-bud up to 5 mm. long, oblong-cylindric, constricted near the middle, glabrous except for a single stipitate gland near the apex of each petal. Calyx c. 0·5 mm. long, subentire, sometimes glandular. Petals wine-coloured. Ovary glabrous; style c. 2 mm. long; stigma indistinct. Fruit 8 × 6 mm., ellipsoid, glabrous. Seed 1, 7 × 5 mm., ellipsoid, slightly rugose, scarcely crested.
