Information Differs from subsp. foveolatus in the following characters. Tall forest trees, up to 40 m. high. Leaves with petiole 5–13 mm. long, lamina 4–8 x 2–3·5 cm., oblong or obovate, with apex caudate and base acute to acuminate. Fruit up to 2·7 cm. long.

Range Distributed widely in S. Africa from the Cape to the Transvaal
Information Shrub c. 3–6 m. tall. Twigs short and frequently branched; young growth glabrous, bark pale grey, fairly smooth. Leaves with petioles 2–4 mm. long; lamina 5·5–9 x 1·5–3·5 cm., glabrous, elliptic, the apex obtuse, the base acute; main lateral nerves 4–6–paired; upper leaf surface glossy with faintly impressed midrib and raised lateral nerves, lower surface mat, minutely pitted, with raised midrib and lateral nerves and with pubescent/acarodomatia in axils of most of lateral nerves; leaf margin slightly thickened, not or slightly revolute. Inflorescences few– to several–flowered axillary cymes up to 2 (3) cm. long; axes ± glabrous; flowers scented. Calyx 1–1·5 mm. long, sometimes with lobes sparsely ciliate. Corolla 5–7 mm. long, white, lobes free almost to the base, strongly or moderately cucullate at apex. Anthers 1–25–2 mm. long. Gynoecium 2 mm. long. Fruit 1·5–2 mm. long, subglobose.
